Translate everything with your mobile phones camera!

Easier conversations and translation of texts with your mobile phones camera, with the new Google Translate!

Google has released a major upgrade for the application of Google Translate for Android and iOS, which now turns your smartphone into a powerful translation tool.

The first of the two new features of the new version is the better support of multilingual conversation with the user being asked to press the microphone function only once in the application, then "speak" to the application, and the application will recognize it and translates to one of the supported languages. The other party gets the text already translated in his own language, the application to recognizes it automatically, and translates it in near real time into text and reads it out at the same time.

The second major upgrade of the application, is the feature of Word Lens, through which you can use the camera of your smartphone, take a picture of text or a sign, then the application translates it into one of the 36 supported languages .

As mentioned by Google, the use of this function might be useful in your travels so that you can read for example Italian billboards in Milan, or choose what to eat in Barcelona. Indeed it can be translate in real time all you need to do is turn the camera of your mobile on a billboard or in a text, and you will see it translated on your screen, even if you have no internet connection. This function translates from English to French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish and vice versa and soon more languages will be added.

Google's goal is to create a single translator via smartphone, a world "where the language is no longer an obstacle in finding information or contact with other cultures."

Free game: Theme Hospital (Origin)

Theme Hospital is a hospital simulation game made by Bullforg and published by Electronic Arts in 1997. In the manner of of Bullfrog’s games, Theme Hospital is has an eccentric sense of humor.
The game had a massive commercial success, selling over 4 million copies worldwide.

In  it’s usual “On the House” game giveaway program,
Origin is now giving us Theme Hospital for FREE!

The game revolves around buying and placing rooms (or facilities) in a hospital, and hiring doctors, nurses, handymen and receptionists to operate it.
Rooms are divided into 4 categories: Diagnosis, Treatment, Clinics and Facilities. Some rooms, notably the Ward and Psychiatric, may overlap and appear on two categories.
Patients are attracted to the hospital, in part, by the reputation of the hospital and the cost of treatment there. They arrive with a number of amusing fictional illnesses which must be diagnosed and cured to earn money and achieve targets set by the game.
At the end of each year, the player can be presented with several awards based on their performance and management of their hospital. These awards also provides bonuses like additional cash or increased reputation.
If the player does badly, the game is lost.

PS4 and Xbox One merged ?!

PLAYBOX: PS4 AND XBOX ONE MADE INTO NOTEBOOK

There is much talk going on about which of the two next generation consoles is the best. Ed Zarick overcame this obstacle and made the PLAYBOX, a custom notebook containing a PS4 and an XBOX One.

Ed Zarick, known on the internet for his aspiring mods, created a system combining the hardware of the two consoles in a casing which he made himself. Accompanied by a 22-inch screen that closes like a notebook making it "portable" if one excludes the weight. In terms of performance it operates exactly like normal the versions of consoles without overheating problems, although the components are literally one over the other. Finally, both consoles cannot be used simultaneously.

The PLAYBOX is a prototype that was built exclusively for a client of Ed and not available for sale. My guess, however, that the price would be quite pinched.

Invention Awards 2014: 360-Degree Infrared Vision

Michael Dortch was building video surveillance trailers for industrial parks in Colorado when his clients started asking for near-omniscient views of their properties. They wanted to see intruders in the dark from all angles, but such coverage required up to seven thermal infrared cameras and cost more than $100,000. So Dortch and a colleague spent four years developing a cheaper, more capable alternative. Their Thermal Radar system provides 360-degree infrared coverage that can spot people, fires, vehicles, and more.

The heart of the invention is a single, spinning thermal sensor. Onboard processors constantly stitch images together for a refreshing panoramic video feed, and intelligent software finds threats.

A finished unit will cost about $16,000—many times cheaper than any system that comes close—and should be ready for its debut later this year. The first and biggest market will be corporate security. But the forest service, the Utah Department of Transportation, and even the Pentagon, Dortch says, also have his invention on their radar.
How It Works:

Warm objects—people, car engines, tires, etc.—emit infrared light.

A spinning camera takes up to 16 thermal images per second, eliminating the need for multiple, expensive cameras.

Software stitches the images together and heat signatures are triangulated with GPS to show their location as a blip on a radar-like applet.
