The Pirate Bay comes back online seven weeks after police raid

 

 A phoenix has replaced the iconic pirate ship atop The Pirate Bay today, celebrating the site's rise from the ashes. The torrent site's servers were raided by Swedish police forces over seven weeks ago, and has been offline ever since. But today, The Pirate Bay lives once more.

 At the time of the police raid in the greater Stockholm area last month, it wasn't clear whether The Pirate Bay would ever return. The site and its founders have been relentlessly persecuted by authorities, with many of its original creators either behind bars or separated from the torrent site.

 But The Pirate Bay has proven to be incredibly resilient. While it isn't clear how the site has come back online this time, it is known that the site runs off of "virtual" servers hosted by secret cloud storage companies around the world. That means there isn't a single server room that holds The Pirate Bay as we know it — and therefore there's no real way to shut down the site for good. The server room raided in Stockholm is said to have been the location of the site's front-end load balancer, which is necessary to keep the site online, but is not irreplaceable.

Metal that makes the water bounce!

New amazing metal is so hydrophobic it makes water bounce like magic!

 

 Scientists at the University of Rochester have created a metal that is so extremely hydrophobic that the water bounces on it as if it were repelled by a magic force field. Instead of using chemical coatings they used lasers to etch a nanostructure on the metal itself. It will not wear off, like current less effective methods.

 The applications can be revolutionary: From the construction of airplane surfaces—which will avoid water freezing of the fuselage—to non-stick pans to phones to computers to TVs to cars to whatever you can imagine made of metal. They are also thinking of applying the technique to create 100-percent efficient water recollection systems in underdeveloped countries and the creation of latrines in areas where water is not abundant enough to allow for effective cleaning.

 But it gets even better: The lead scientist says that 'the structures created by their laser on the metals are intrinsically part of the material surface' so they will not disappear over time, like current chemical coatings do.

 The material is so strongly water-repellent, the water actually gets bounced off. Then it lands on the surface again, gets bounced off again, and then it will just roll off from the surface.

 Here's Guo in a explanatory video along with the co-writer of the study, Anatoliy Vorobyev, who is a professor at the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics.

 Google has released a major upgrade for the application of Google Translate for Android and iOS, which now turns your smartphone into a powerful translation tool.

 The first of the two new features of the new version is the better support of multilingual conversation with the user being asked to press the microphone function only once in the application, then "speak" to the application, and the application will recognize it and translates to one of the supported languages. The other party gets the text already translated in his own language, the application to recognizes it automatically, and translates it in near real time into text and reads it out at the same time.

 The second major upgrade of the application, is the feature of Word Lens, through which you can use the camera of your smartphone, take a picture of text or a sign, then the application translates it into one of the 36 supported languages .

 As mentioned by Google, the use of this function might be useful in your travels so that you can read for example Italian billboards in Milan, or choose what to eat in Barcelona. Indeed it can be translate in real time all you need to do is turn the camera of your mobile on a billboard or in a text, and you will see it translated on your screen, even if you have no internet connection. This function translates from English to French, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish and vice versa and soon more languages will be added.

 Google's goal is to create a single translator via smartphone, a world "where the language is no longer an obstacle in finding information or contact with other cultures."

PLAYBOX: PS4 AND XBOX ONE MADE INTO NOTEBOOK

 

 

 There is much talk going on about which of the two next generation consoles is the best. Ed Zarick overcame this obstacle and made the PLAYBOX, a custom notebook containing a PS4 and an XBOX One.

 Ed Zarick, known on the internet for his aspiring mods, created a system combining the hardware of the two consoles in a casing which he made himself. Accompanied by a 22-inch screen that closes like a notebook making it "portable" if one excludes the weight. In terms of performance it operates exactly like normal the versions of consoles without overheating problems, although the components are literally one over the other. Finally, both consoles cannot be used simultaneously.

 The PLAYBOX is a prototype that was built exclusively for a client of Ed and not available for sale. My guess, however, that the price would be quite pinched.
